As part of the DKMS Access To Transplantation (ATT) program, DKMS intends to make a sustainable contribution to the training of professionals by offering a scholarship for medical and non-medical personnel in the field of hematology and hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT).
The financial support through the DKMS Scholarship enables professionals to develop specialist expertise by taking part in individually chosen programs, such as theoretical courses, practical observerships or a combination of both. Support is only extended for such programs which do not constitute compulsory further training by the applicant’s employer.
The DKMS Scholarship is aimed at medical and non-medical personnel in the field of hematology and hematopoietic stem cell transplantation whose work ultimately contributes to the best possible treatment of patients with a potentially transplant-relevant disease.
In particular, professionals residing in low- and middle-income countries, as defined by World Bank, or in Chile, are welcome to apply.
The DKMS Scholarship supports individually chosen educational programs in the field of hematology and hematopoietic stem cell transplantation. Depending on the chosen program, an application can be handed in for one of the following three Funding Lines:
1. Funding Line A: Scholarship for participation in a course (online or on-site) and in an observership
2. Funding Line B: Scholarship for participation in a course (online or on-site)
3. Funding Line C: Scholarship for participation in an observership
In all three Funding Lines, participation may either take place at the trainee’s place of residence or may require a temporary absence from the permanent place of residence.
Medical and non-medical personnel in the field of hematology and hematopoietic stem cell transplantation can apply for support through the DKMS Scholarship.
In particular, the target group includes:
- Physicians
- Nurses
- Donor coordinators
- Transplant coordinators
- Search coordinators
- Laboratory technicians
- Stem cell collection specialists
Personnel working in other functions at the above-mentioned areas may also apply if their work contributes to the best possible treatment of patients with a potentially transplant-relevant disease.
Costs incurred by the participation in an educational program shall be covered in the form of monthly financial support. Depending on the Funding Line, different type of costs can be supported such as:
1. Training costs (e.g. course fees)
2. Travel costs (e.g. flight costs for a temporary change of location, visa costs, costs for health insurance)
3. Living expenses (e.g. costs for rent, lump sum for food and supplies, cost for public transport)
4. Other costs (e.g. costs for necessary language test)
For a detailed overview of the costs covered under each Funding Line, please refer to the Funding Guidelines.
DKMS will review each application individually and decide on a case-by-case basis which application may be considered and which costs will be covered.
Applications are possible at any time and must be submitted at least eight weeks before the start of the program.
